- Testing Phase: Sealed product samples are sent to a BIS-approved laboratory for detailed testing.
- Licence Approval: If the samples pass all prescribed tests and documentation is verified, BIS issues the certificate within 60 to 65 days of the application submission.
- Accelerated Method (Approx. 35–40 Days): The accelerated approach is a faster and more streamlined version of the certification process. It includes the following steps:
- Submission of Pre-Tested Samples: The applicant submits a sample that has already been tested and approved by a BIS-recognized laboratory as per the relevant Indian Standard.
- Filing the Application: The manufacturer completes the online BIS registration, attaching test reports, supporting documents, and applicable fees.
- Factory Assessment: BIS officials conduct an inspection of the factory to confirm that the production systems and product quality meet BIS standards.
- Verification and Testing: Additional verification or testing may be conducted to validate compliance.
- Certificate Issuance: Upon successful verification, BIS grants the licence within 35 to 40 days from the date of application.
